Canada was one of the leaders in having powerlifting become a competitive sport for athletes who are blind or partially sighted
Powerlifting is comprised of three lifts: the squat, bench press and deadlift. Powerlifting competitions may be comprised of one, two or all three of the lifting disciplines.
International Blind Sports (IBSA) Powerlifting follows the same rules as the sighted version of the sport.
IBSA Powerlifting regularly hosts various competitions for athletes with visual impairments, including world and regional Championships.
All athletes would be classified for competition as B1, B2 or B3. However, they do compete as one class.
